A quote is only as good as the scope behind it. Three things most often change a fee in Botswana:

• Whether the environmental regime applies. A prescribed activity under the Environmental Assessment Act 2011 carries a different programme, including a public review of not less than 21 days, and it gates everything downstream. See environmental compliance.
• The land position. Tribal land administered by a Land Board is a separate counterparty with its own timeline, and on a mining project surface rights are a condition of the licence.
• Whether specialists are required. Environmental practitioners, registered engineers and technical specialists are appointed to the project and their costs are separate from ours. We set them out rather than absorbing them into a single number.
